UK law enforcement forces are consistently failing to deal with present day slavery and human trafficking in the country.
UK law enforcement forces are consistently failing to deal with present day slavery and human trafficking in the country. This is according to a report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary cited by the Independent. The report suggests that the British police inefficiently identify the given misdemeanours. The document also states that investigation into the abuses is either slow or not proper enough. This disregard often leaves victims, forced into slavery, unprotected or even arrested, while allowing perpetrators to continue exploiting vulnerable people. The Inspectorate also highlighted the low level of coordination efforts between the police and the National Crime Agency. Human right groups warn that the failures of the police make it hard for the majority of victims to seek justice. Radio Sputnik discussed the issue with Jeff Norman, a UK-based Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Specialist from Stop Slavery Today.
